Abstract | The main objective of SO113-2 was to study the spreading and the transformation of Antarctic Intermediate Water in the western tropical Pacific. This low saline water mass at 800m enters Bismarck Sea through Vitiaz Strait. Its mixing, aging and equator crossing was investigated by CTD stations, including a rosette sampler for nutrient and antropogenic tracer analyses, and by freely drifting (floats) and moored current meters. A biological group collected samples of algae in the upper 200m. Though multibeam data has been recorded it was not the main focus of the cruise and no acquisition information has been provided by the responsible party. |
