Abstract | The scientific program of SO125 was assigned to collect sediment echosounder, MBES and multi-channel reflection seismic profiles to study the general depositional processes on the Bengal Fan and the relationship of meander geometry and depositional terraces within the channels. The multibeam echosounder HYOROSWEEP on RN SONNE was routinely used during the cruise and serviced by the system operator. During a 24 hour watch the scientific crew operated continuously the HYDROSWEEP. The system worked without major technical problems and provided a complete coverage of the sea floor topography with a swath width of twice the water depth. The data quality was generally good with data losses at higher speeds and due to high sea states. |
