Purpose Multibeam data were collected to extend the global database of seafloor topography and to provide high resolution bathymetry for the expedition's scientific program.
Abstract Multibeam data were collected during R/V Polarstern cruise ANT-V/4. Data recording was executed in southern Weddell Sea off Antarctic ice shelf and was supervised by two hydrographers. Data are unprocessed and may contain outliers and blunders. Therefore the data should not directly be used for grid calculations and charting projects but need to be edited furthermore. One file normally contains a measurement period of one day. The dataset consists of 58 files in originally Seabeam binary multibeam format (*.geo) and additionally of 58 files converted into a more common Seabeam format (*.mb14). Both datasets are compressed with GZIP to size of 31.1 MB. Seabeam data files (*.mb14) can be processed using the open source software package MB-System (http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/pi/MB-System/) or the software package CARAIBES from IFREMER.
