Purpose
Abstract Research cruise SO-180 was designed to contribute to the understanding of the massive plate tectonic reorganization that took place in the East Pacific during the Late Oligocene and Early Miocene and therefore was carried out in the Central Pacific just south of the equator. The EM120 was operated continuously and 11,408 km of bathymetric data were acquired. Though multibeam data has been recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information has been provided by the responsible party.
