Abstract | SO188-1 was conducted at the Bay of Bengal to collect high-resolution multichannel seismic data, sediment echosounder(Parasound) Data and swath sounder (Simrad EM120) data. In addition, sediment cores were taken by using a gravity corer to fulfill the requirements of the site survey panel of IODP and to further investigate the depositional history of the turbidite fan. During SO188-1 the EM120 system worked unfortunately very unreliable and computers crashed very often, sometimes around each half-hour. The quality of the data was unusually bad, especially the central part of the swath, where the depths are amplitude-derived. It was believed that these errors were the result of a software update installed during the shipyard time before. |
