Abstract | SO191-1 set out to achieve further insight like the build up, life time, internal structure, long term behaviour, etc. at the seep sites at the Hikurangi Margin. Geoacoustic Methods were applied to map the distribution and appearance of these seeps while seismic profiling provides high resolution images of the internal structures. Controlled source electromagnetic measurements were applied to complement the seismic sections. Methane concentration was measured near the surface and near the ocean bottom in order to study the distribution of methane at the transition from the subsurface to the water column and at the transition to the atmosphere. During SO191 a swath width of 120 or 100° was usually used for mapping. The system kept running during the entire time regardless if the ship steamed or was on station. New raw data files were started about every hour. |
