Abstract | The cruise M110 GALIMOS aimed at monitoring the relationship between oceanography and seabed at the continental margin off the NW-Iberian Peninsula. The expedition focused on the two areas of most intense interaction between the hydrographic and sedimentary regimes: a) the mid-shelf muddy depocenter and b) the Galician deeper shelf edge with two spectacular morphological terraces. The Kongsberg Simrad EM 710 for bathymetric mapping in shallow water depths mainly remained switched off due to heavy interferences with the ADCP 75 kHz. During this cruise, we found that heavy weather conditions limited the useful depth range to 400 m. Bathymetry was not the primary focus of the cruise. |
