Purpose | |
Abstract | Cruise MSM51 into the western, central and northern Baltic Sea aimed to perform seismo- and hydroacoustic surveys, sampling of Holocene sediments and to investigate the water column wintertime mixing close to sea-ice limits. The sampling program during the cruise included water and sediment sampling after detailed hydroacoustic surveying with hull-mounted multibeam bathymetry (EM 1002) and sediment echosounder (PARASOUND) systems. Water column structure and properties (i.e.. temperature. salinity) were studied by detailed CTD profiling in order to assess the role of the winter time mixing and sea ice formation on formation of deep waters. The recording period followed as planned. |
