Purpose
Abstract Bathymetric measurements were conducted continuously during the whole cruise with the Kongsberg EM122 multibeam echo sounder. Data acquisition started on August 18th, 2013 at 7:41 UTC shortly before reaching the Knipovich Ridge and lasted until September 13th, 2013, 22:02 UTC after leaving the Barents shelf south of Svalbard. In total an area of about 23,400 km² with a track length of about 7800 km was mapped during the cruise. Combined seismo-acoustic studies were conducted at ship speed of about 5 knots, dedicated multibeam surveys were run at 7-8.5 knots, and during transit the survey speed was 12-14 knots. The swath width of the EM122 was mostly set to values between 60° and 66°, depending on water depth, ship speed and sea condition, so that the outer beam quality did not decrease too much. To calibrate the measured depths the sound velocity profile was regularly updated using data from CTD casts that were performed on different sites of the survey area.
