Purpose | In order to get detailed information about the seafloor morphology of the study area, the seafloor was surveyed by a SIMRAD EM120 echo sounder system. |
Abstract | During the cruise the hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad system EM120 was used for bathymetric mapping. The system was acquiring data throughout the entire cruise, except for minor gaps due to system failures. The SIMRAD EM120 system represents a hull-mounted transducer which periodically (12 kHz) emits a pulse and subsequently records the travel time after the signal was reflected at the seafloor. Knowing the sound velocity of the water column, the travel time of the signal thus provides information about the water depth. 17 000 km² of multi-beam bathymetric data were acquired during the cruise. |
