Purpose Multibeam data were collected to extend the global database of seafloor topography and to provide high resolution bathymetry for the expedition's scientific program.
Abstract Multibeam data were measured during R/V Polarstern cruise ANT-XVIII/1 along track lines of approximately 5,700 NM total length. Data were achieved in the Atlantic Ocean on the route from the English Channel to Cape Town via the Canary Islands The multibeam sonar system Hydrosweep DS-2 was operated using 59 beams and 90° aperture angle. The refraction correction was achieved utilizing the system's own cross fan calibration. The quality of data might be reduced during bad weather periods. The dataset contains raw data that are not processed and thus may contain errors and blunders in depth and position. Files from antxviii1___60F30009020000.sda to antxviii1___60F30009100800.sda have wrong time stamp: month must be October (10) not September (09). One file contains a measurement period not exceeding eight hours. The dataset consists of 60 files in ATLAS SURF format which are compressed with GZIP to size of 395 MB.
