Abstract | Leg 4 of M42 was related to the EU-project CANIGO (Canary Islands Azores Gibraltar Observation) as well as the BMBF-project DOMEST (Datenübertragung im Ozean und Meßtechnik zur hochauflösenden Erfassung von Stofftransporten in der Tiefsee). Therefore the influence of Sahara dust of the Canary region and the variability of that dust during the last glacial and interglacial periods was studied using sediment sampling systems (box corer etc.) as well as mooring stations. During the entire cruise Hydrosweep and Parasound Data were collected. The used Hydrosweep is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5 kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party. |
