Purpose | |
Abstract | The METEOR cruise M44-1 mainly concentrated on geoscientific studies in the Marmara Sea. On the basis of the tectonic situation cool fluid and gas (mainly methane) emanations were expected particularly in the deep regions of the Marmara Sea because of the availability of fault zones as conductors for fluid migration. One scientific objective of the research project was to sample the fluids and gases both within the porewater and the benthic water layer in order to investigate their interrelations with the solid substance of the sediments. Though the Hydrosweep was operated during this cruise, no further acquisition information were provided. |
