Abstract | The scientific program of the METEOR Cruise M44/3 included geoscientific studies in the Gulf of Aqaba, the northern Red Sea, and in the eastern Mediterranean. The goal of the paleoceangraphic studies in the Gulf of Aqaba were to reconstruct the climate history, the circulation, and water mass exchange during the late Quaternary. The impact of sea level changes, variations in productivity, changes in the carbonate budget and terrigeneous input were considered. The multibeam echosounder HYDROSWEEP on R/V METEOR was routinely used during the cruise and serviced by the system operator and the electronics engineers. During a 24-hour watch the scientific crew operated continuously the HYDROSWEEP. The HYDROSWEEP System worked without major technical problems |
