Abstract | The first leg of M49 was devoted to reflection seismics, sediment echosounder and bathymetric measurements to investigate Paleogene sedimentary sequences on the outer Walvis Ridge. The survey data was used from J. Zachos to summit an ODP proposal which is focusing extreme climatic conditions in the Paleogene as well as the reconstruction of paleooceanographic development of the area. During the entire cruise Hydrosweep and Parasound Data were collected. The used Hydrosweep is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5 kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party. |
