Abstract | The research interest of 49/4 was to study the particle flux in the western equatorial Atlantic as well as in the Brazil Basin. During the transit to Surinam the North Brazil Current was investigated to reconstruct the transport of warm water masses into the Caribean area. The third research interest was to do seismic investigations of the Demara Plateau (Surinam). The scientific program included CTD stations as well as other systems to measure chlorophyll, trace elements and other proxies for the flux. In addition samples of the surface water were taken to collect organic material. During the entire cruise Hydrosweep and Parasound Data were collected. The used Hydrosweep is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party. |
