Abstract | The main research interest of leg 3 of M51 was to reconstruct abrupt climate fluctuations during the Late Quaternary (especially sapropel layers S1, S5 and S6) involving interglacial glacial boundaries. The scientific program included sediment sampling using a multicorer as well as water sampling (CTS rosette), to observe planktic forams, dinoflagellates and bacteria. During the entire cruise Hydrosweep and Parasound Data were collected. The data was primary used to find optimal sampling locations. The used Hydrosweep is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5 kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party. |
