Purpose
Abstract Sampling and locating of methane-rich fluid venting was the main research object of M54/3A. These information were used to investigate the amount of methane which was released from the seafloor as well as the turnover of methane in the water column and the sediment. During the entire cruise Hydrosweep and Parasound Data were collected. The used Hydrosweep is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5 kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party.
