Abstract | To study the climate history of Late Quarternary during the first leg of cruise 57 water samples and sediment samples were taken in the upper continental margin in the west of South Africa. During the entire cruise Parasound and Hydrosweep data were collected. This data was used to identify and map the Holocene mudbelt and Quarternary slopesediments as well as looking for optimal coring locations. The used Hydrosweep system is a multibeam echosounder using a frequency of 15.5 kHz. The quality of profiles varies coherent to weather conditions and ship course. Though multibeam data was recorded, it was not the main focus of the cruise and no further information have been provided by the responsible party. |
