Abstract | The main purpose of cruise M65/1 was to collect samples and data from the continental slope off NW Africa to investigate several research themes for example the reconstruction of late Quaternary changes in temperature and the nutrient stratification in the water column. The PARASOUND and the HYDROSWEEP were operated by the scientific crew on a 24-hour watch, except on stations and the transits across the territorial waters of Guinea-Bissau. Both systems worked without technical problems. The output of the HYDROSWEEP program was backed up in surf-format by the crews system administrators. Subsequently, the data were transformed into ASCII formatted latitude-longitude-depth files. Since waves can cause problems with the system, the data output of HYDROSWEEP contains some gaps. Further data gaps occurred at the beginning because of the automatic depth tracking failed during transects covering the entire slope and shelf. |
