Abstract | The primary goal of the cruise M75/3 was to investigate offshore the large river mouths in Mozambique and Madagascar were late Holocene and late Pleistocene sediments have been deposited in sufficient thickness to execute high resolution paleoclimate studies. With the shipboard PARASOUND echo-sounder system sediments should be surveyed to identify the most suitable locations for coring continuous and expanded sediment sections that provide the archive for marine and terrigenous paleoenvironmental indicators (proxies) for paleoclimatic studies. During Cruise M75/3 the hull-mounted Kongsberg Simrad systems EM120 and EM710 were used for bathymetric mapping. The deep water system EM120 was run continuously during all seismic surveys but also on transit routes in a 24 hour schedule. The shallow water systems EM710 was switched on in appropriate water depths. However, due to several system failures and some problems with the system restart, some data gaps exist. |
